What Lando Norris Needs to Win the Drivers’ Championship in Abu Dhabi

Are you excited to see Formula 1 races go to the end of season before a champion is named? It’s the way racing should always end – at the end of the season!

With a mandatory two-stop rule in play for every driver, the Abu Dhabi finale puts strategy at the heart of Lando Norris’ title chances. To stay in control, Norris must qualify at the sharp end—ideally on pole—so he can dictate the race pace and manage the timing of his two required pit stops.

Pirelli brings the C3 (hard), C4 (medium), and C5 (soft) compounds, creating a delicate balance between early pace and long-run durability. Norris and McLaren will need to decide whether to open on the explosive but short-lived softs, lean on the consistent mediums for stability, or use the hards to stretch one of the mandated stints. Perfect execution during both stops will be essential, especially with rivals expected to attempt undercuts and overcuts throughout the race.

Without the fastest lap point in play, it all comes down to finishing position. For Norris to become World Champion, he must win the Grand Prix and ensure his title rivals finish far enough behind to swing the standings his way. Under the Yas Marina lights, every compound choice, every pit stop, and every lap will matter.
