Shannon Sharpe Reaches Settlement in $50 Million Lawsuit

NFL Hall of Famer and ESPN personality Shannon Sharpe has privately settled a $50 million civil lawsuit brought by “Jane Doe,” dismissing the case with prejudice. Filed in April in Clark County, Nevada, the suit alleged multiple rapes, threats, manipulation, non-consensual recordings, and emotional distress during a tumultuous two-year relationship that began at a Los Angeles gym in 2023.

Attorney Tony Buzbee announced the resolution on social media, stating, “After protracted and respectful negotiations, I’m pleased … the matter is closed”. No settlement amount has been disclosed, though NBC Sports indicates the figure likely exceeds $10 million. Sharpe’s legal team had previously offered at least $10 million to avoid litigation but ultimately proceeded with the lawsuit.

During the case, audio surfaced allegedly of Sharpe threatening violence, while he countered with screenshots of explicit messages asserting the relationship was consensual and based on role-playing. Sharpe denied all allegations, calling them “false and disruptive” and a “shakedown”.

The agreement means the case cannot be refiled. Sharpe, who stepped away from ESPN’s First Take in April, is expected to return with the NFL preseason on the horizon.
