Shedeur Sanders’ NFL preseason debut

Date:

Shedeur Sanders’ NFL preseason debut with the Cleveland Browns was a major talking point, especially considering the hype around him as the potential next big quarterback prospect. His performance drew a lot of attention, given his strong college career under his father, Coach Prime, at the University of Colorado.

In his debut, Shedeur showed a lot of what he’s been praised for: composure, poise under pressure, and an ability to make precise throws. He seemed to handle the speed and intensity of the NFL game quite well for a rookie, looking confident in the pocket and demonstrating solid decision-making. His accuracy on short-to-medium throws was particularly notable, and his command of the offense stood out, even though preseason games are often filled with a mix of starters and backups.

Though the competition can be a little uneven in preseason (with many first-string players not playing for long), Shedeur still seemed to hold his own and prove that he belongs. One thing that stood out was his ability to stay calm when the pocket was collapsing and his ability to extend plays with his legs, which was one of the big talking points about his college career as well.

While some may have expected more flash from the son of one of the most flamboyant NFL players ever, Shedeur’s debut was more about his fundamentals and making the right decisions—something his father has always emphasized. Deion Sanders has always said that Shedeur’s biggest strength is his calmness and ability to focus, even in high-pressure moments.

Overall, it was a solid first outing, and while we shouldn’t overhype preseason games, the early signs are that Shedeur could develop into a bright and shiny strong NFL quarterback.

Did you catch the game? What were your impressions?
